• This opportunity is open to all artists, makers, architects and designers

• Drawing must be central to the artist’s practice
• Artists must be able to commit to the residency period

* Please note: International artists’ travel expenses or Visa application fees are the responsibility of the applicant

Step 1
In the first instance artists are required to complete all sections of the online application form. This will include:

• Select which residency you would like to apply for: Spring or Autumn 2023 or both
• Upload a maximum of 6 images of recent work
• Upload a one page A4 CV
• A brief outline of how you envisage the residency contributing to the development of your practice
• A brief statement of how you might approach the residency
• Preferred ways of working, possible locations within the Museum and which department – if any – you would like to align yourself with
• What experience you might have already with taking part in public engagement
• Details of your other work commitments during the residency period
• How you will document your residency

Step 2
Following the online selection, a short list of artists will be invited to take part in an interview. This will take place with the selection panel either in person at the Sir John Soane’s Museum or online as required.

Standard copyright practice is adhered to. All images taken or supplied by the successful applicant may be used by the Sir John Soane’s Museum or its agent for the purposes of promoting the Artist at Soane residency. The copyright will remain with the artist and the Sir John Soane’s Museum or its agent will ensure that the artist is fully credited.

The organisers of the Artist at Soane Residency and the Project Manager hold personal data provided by entrants for each year. This information will be used solely in conjunction with your entry for the Artist at Soane Residency. Data pertaining to those who are not selected will be held for up to 12 months, after which this information will be destroyed. In registering, applicants agree that if selected for the Artist at Soane Residency their contact details will be retained by the organisers of the Artist at Soane Residency and these will be added to the mailing lists for the Artist at Soane Residency, from which is it possible to unsubscribe at any time.
